Not all kitchen remodeling companies in NH are the same. Some will try to cut corners to push you into a cookie-cutter design that doesn’t have you or your home in mind. At Cabinet Depot Manchester, we know that every home and remodeling project is different, so we take a unique approach to each one. But in order to successfully design a great kitchen for every customer, there are some basic rules of thumb that we always follow.
Here are three secrets to designing the perfect kitchen that is beautiful and functional.
Start with the work triangle.
Don’t worry if you aren’t familiar with the term “work triangle.” It’s a simple concept that refers to the workflow of your kitchen, specifically the traffic pattern between the three key locations of your kitchen. Those locations are the stove, the fridge, and the sink. The path to and from each of these locations is the starting point of any kitchen design. The most important thing to keep in mind is that you don’t want to block your path between any of these points. For example, if you want to include a kitchen island, you need to ensure you have enough space to be clear of the triangle.
Keep your appliances in mind.
Think about all the appliances you have in your kitchen. Some are built into the design, like your fridge and dishwasher. Many others, however, live in your cabinets or on the countertop, like your coffeemaker or blender. Take a moment to think about or make a list of all those appliances and divide them into appliances that you use a lot and those you use occasionally. Items you use often should have a spot on the countertop so you don’t have to pull them out every day and waste space in your cabinets. Appliances that only get occasional use should have a place in the cabinet or pantry.
Organization is everything.
Speaking of cabinets, coming up with a good system to organize them is crucial to a functioning kitchen. You don’t want to waste valuable time while you’re cooking opening up all your drawers and cabinets trying to remember where you left that spatula. Similar to how you divided up your appliances, think about what items and utensils you use a lot and find easy-to-reach places to keep them. Arrange other kitchen items by category so you always know where to look when you need something.
