As we said, granite is very hard, so you don’t have to worry about cracking, but it is porous, which means that it can stain. If you choose a light color and spill a dark liquid (like coffee), it can seep into the stone and stain. The sealant prevents those stains from sticking around. Other than periodical resealing, all you have to do to maintain granite countertops is clean them with warm water and mild soap.
