Why NH Loves Granite Countertops

New Hampshire is the Granite State, so it’s appropriate that granite countertops are popular with NH homeowners. If you’re ready to upgrade your kitchen with some new granite countertops, you’ve come to the right place. Our team at Cabinet Depot Manchester is here to help you redesign your kitchen to meet your expectations for both form and function. And when you want countertops that look great and hold up, you can’t beat granite.

Let’s take a look at why granite countertops are such a popular choice among NH homeowners.

Color Choices

Granite is a natural stone, so your color choices are limited to whatever occurs in nature. However, that’s not much of a limit at all. While white and gray may be the most common and easiest colors to find, granite slabs can be many other colors. Depending on the quarry where the granite originates, you can find granite in black, blue, green, orange, golden yellow, and even pink. Less common colors may be harder to track down—and therefore more expensive—but you can usually find what you’re looking for if you shop around with various suppliers.

Durability

Granite is incredibly hard and durable, so your granite countertops will last as long as your home with minimal maintenance. As an igneous rock, formed from magma underneath a mountain or volcano, granite is also resistant to heat. You can place a hot pan directly on its surface without damaging it. We don’t recommend doing that, though, because we do apply a sealant to granite countertops that will show marks from heat.

Easy Maintenance

Speaking of the sealant, we apply that when we first install your countertops, and we recommend that you reseal them every few years. As we said, granite is very hard, so you don’t have to worry about cracking, but it is porous, which means that it can stain. If you choose a light color and spill a dark liquid (like coffee), it can seep into the stone and stain. The sealant prevents those stains from sticking around. Other than periodical resealing, all you have to do to maintain granite countertops is clean them with warm water and mild soap.
